From Rowcroft to White: Australian Fiction in Sweden
Abstract
'What Australian authors are there? And what do we honestly know about this strange, distant part of the world? What do we really know about Australian cultural life? Thus the Swedish critic, Peter Ortman, introduced his presentation of the Nobel Prize winner in Sydvettska Dagbladet Snällposten, a South Swedish daily, on 19 October 1973. This article attempts to answer, in part, the two latter questions by surveying some works of Australian fiction that have been translated into Swedish, with some mention of the reviews they received in the popular press.
