Discusses Winton's fiction, including That Eye, The Sky in terms of vision, time, gender and language, arguing that the work is animated by a set of polarities--'on the one hand narrative and the temporal, signified and dramatised by the Feminine and Grammar; and, on the other hand, the beyond of narrative and time, dramatised rather than signified by possibilities invested in the Masculine'.
