Translating Fredy Neptune: Interview with Thomas Eichhorn
Abstract
The following is an interview by correspondence. In early June 2004 I sent a questionnaire with eight queries to Thomas Eichhorn, the highly praised German translator of Fredy Neptune. He lives in Leipzig, a city situated in the part of Germany that was previously the socialist/communist German Democratic Republic, the state where he grew up and received his education (see below). In a letter to me dated 2 July 2004, he generously answered all my questions. Marianne Ehrhardt kindly translated this letter, incorporating the questions (now set in italics).
