Discusses the Horwitz Publications author 'Carter Brown' (Alan Geoffrey Yates), became the bestselling Australian novelists after his books were licensed to American publisher Signet. Argues that "the author 'Carter Brown' provides a site for a consideration of the exporting of intellectual property, and the ways in which a small Sydney publisher, a naive author, and a multi-national conglomerate negotiated geographical and cultural boundaries to produce one of Australia's most successful literary exports."
