Slessor’s Cook: The Imprudent Hero
Abstract
Julian Croft's difficulties with certain aspects of 'Five Visions of Captain Cook' ('Slessor's "Five Visions" ', Australian Literary Studies vol. 4, no. 2, 172-74), arise primarily from misinterpretation of the text. His comments also indicate a partial disorientation both geographically and nautically so that he mistakenly views one section of the poem as making Cook's decision seem prudent instead of heroic.
