Abstract
Explores the transit-quest theme as a recurring motif in Hazzard's fiction, with particular emphasis on the 'most successful' of her Italian novels, The Bay of Noon (1970). Discusses the significance of and representation of Naples in the novel, arguing that it 'came to be the site of an aesthetic revelation' for Hazzard.
