Review of The Novels of Alex Miller: An Introduction, edited by Robert Dixon
Abstract
This collection of essays, the first to address Australian novelist Alex Miller's oeuvre, is a worthy critical companion to his ten novels, amplifying the layers of thematic harmony and contextual complexity that characterise Miller's work. Each of the fourteen essays makes a valuable contribution to the study of Miller's writing, while at the same time opening up pathways of thought for its continued examination. While all of Miller's novels are attended to, some, such as The Ancestor Game (1992), The Sitters (1995), Journey to the Stone Country (2002) and Landscape of Farewell (2007) have attracted more attention from the assembled group, a sign that points to both the strength of these novels and the need for continued critical attention.
