Review of Letters of Mary Gilmore, selected and edited by W.H. Wilde and T. Inglis Moore
Abstract
It is the great virtue of this selection from her letters that it gives a full impression, admitting the little vanities, the errors of judgement, the inevitable contradictions produced by a large and vigorous mind, active in public and literary affairs until her death in 1962 at the age of 97. But over the collection as a whole the little vanities are as nothing in respect to the larger humility, the lifelong sense of obligation to others, of service to humanity and within that to Australia.
