Some Correspondence with Joan Lindsay
Abstract
I corresponded with Lady Joan Lindsay from December 1981, till May 1983. The first letter was mine: I asked her about possible Pan motifs in Picnic at Hanging Rock, a subject on which I was preparing a conference paper. After that we wrote to each other in friendly fashion about literature and many other topics. I received eight letters in all from Joan, the last dated 23 April 1983. They reveal a good deal about her personality, as well as her attitudes to writing, education, her works and life in general.
